Second Week (Week 7)

Reading Group – Emma Dabiri

As a group, we have done some disscussion and analysis on the films ‘Parasite‘ and ‘The Devil wears Prada‘ which are films we all are familair with or have watched in the past. There are common themes within these two films which are societal classes, capitalism and work ethic.

The two movies tackles the division of class, gaps between classes and the things individuals are capable to do in order to survive.

Parasite portrays a critique on capitalism and the class struggle while The devil wears Prada suggests that in order for a women to succeed in a patriarchal society (for Andy to get recognise) they have to be sexually desirable and stylish. Both films illustrated how far people would go to accomplish their goals and get by with life.

Another recurring theme is the strategy of “fake it till you make it” to succeed and, to an even greater scale.

Andy from the Devil wears Prada are seen changing her whole appearance to impress her boss as well to gain acceptance by people in her work field. This strategy is also seen used by the Kims from Parasite to get a job and infiltrate the Park home, yet also applies to the Park couple, whose marriage is based on codependency and secrets, not to mention parental absence and lack of communication. The housekeeper Moon Gwang is depicted as a near-perfect person, acting as a substitute mother to the Parks’ children. Yet even she has a secret — hiding her sick husband in the basement — and this shows how even she has had to fake things for the sake of her spouse.

Project Group – Lemon

Independent Group activity: SouthBank Center

The prompt for this week’s Group Activity is to choose a place of work to visit that is relevant to our group’s speculative project. Explore and map work within that space or organisation

Last week, we have agreed on choosing an overarching framework/desired values that our deliverable will make tangible/communicate which is an Organisation/Community space. Therefore we could visit any organisation which works for the betterment of a community rather than profit.

We have chosen to visit the South Bank Center as a group.

We disscussed about how Ai and Technology could help bring communities together within an oragansation to create a bridge between social classes like a project in Denmark that got cancelled.

Conclusion we will look into B Corp gamified structure for corporation
– restricting economy on people+environmental+ethical consciousness
– money given based on green or + points not individual but structural and corporate responsibility

We also worked on identifing what type of deliverable (experience, product, financial model, service) will be in our speculative workplace. We thought of coming up with product that could be tech that doesn’t exist like pure sci fi.
– A Vr goggle for the public to use in our community space to virtually enter live events or exhibitions and shows from different places. We can also sell them to the public.

Stakeholder Interview

I have reached out for a Interview via Linked In Messages to ask a few people who worked with/for organisations in the UK.

The questions were:

1. Can you see yourself or organisations collaborate with AI in the future work environment and if so why?

2. Can AI and technology bring communities together? If yes, how?

3. Do you think new inventions and techonoly will affect your future in a negative or positive way and if so why? (Will it make it easier or harder?)

4. How do you imagine the future of work in general and also within your profession?
